Western Canada Fashion Week opens with youngest designer ever

16 years and inspired, Noah Milo launches a collection reflecting the immigrant experience.

Western Canada Fashion Week opens on Wednesday September 26 with a new collection by the youngest designer ever to participate in the 16 years of the event. Noah Milo, a 16 years old grade 12 student, will be launching a collection called JONAS at Western Canada Fashion Week’s 30th season.

The collection reflects the happy, whimsical wear of college students but with a twist. The collection is inspired by the experience of new Canadians adapting to new cultures and dress. The result is often a genuine attempt to match the style of the day but with a sense of awkwardness and incongruity.

JONAS, is inspired by Milo’s own experience growing up in a household of siblings and as a 2ndgeneration immigrant. Milo states, “My brother and I would often be dressed in hand-me downs- that never quite fit properly. Pants that were too long or shirts that were too small”. This aesthetic of whimsical awkwardness is reflected in the JONAS collection.

The men’s wear collection is all hand-made by Milo out of a shoebox studio in the new Green Manufacturing and Design studio space on 9911 – 72 Ave NW. Milo seeks to bring awareness to other youth his age to pursue their dreams and to consider the creative industries for their future career.

All of the models for the collection are friends of Milo from all corners of the world: Sudan, Cameroon, Russia, Ukraine, Philippines and India.
